1. Overview
Locking Bible (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is an iOS app that pauses the distracting apps you choose, using Apple’s Screen Time technology, and offers a short moment with Scripture before you can scroll. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, where it lives, and the choices you have.
The app is intentionally simple: there is no account, no login, no backend server, and no third-party software development kits (SDKs). The app itself makes no network requests to us.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
Locking Bible does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data from the app. Specifically, the app has:
- no user accounts and no login;
- no backend, database, or cloud storage operated by us;
- no analytics, telemetry, crash-reporting, advertising, or attribution SDKs;
- no third-party SDKs of any kind — the app uses only Apple system frameworks;
- no access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photo library, or health data;
- no advertising and no tracking.
Because the app has no Locking Bible backend, your in-app activity never reaches us.
3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device
To work, the app keeps a small amount of state on your device only, in local app storage (including a shared App Group container so the app and its Screen Time extensions can read the same state). This includes:
- whether you completed onboarding, and the answers you optionally give during onboarding (how often you read Scripture, your estimated daily screen time, your age range);
- whether Protection is on or off, and whether Screen Time authorization was granted;
- your selection of protected apps, stored as Apple-provided opaque tokens (see section 4), and the number of apps selected;
- your progress: current streak, verses read, minutes reclaimed, the date of your last completed pause, and the last verse shown;
- the expiration time of a current unlock window;
- notification and app settings.
This information stays on your device. It is not uploaded anywhere by Locking Bible, and we cannot see it.
4. Screen Time and Family Controls
Locking Bible uses Apple’s Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks (Apple’s Screen Time technology) to shield the apps you choose.
- You explicitly choose which apps to protect, using Apple’s own app picker.
- Apple represents your selections using privacy-preserving opaque tokens provided by the Family Controls framework. Locking Bible does not upload those tokens to any Locking Bible backend.
- Locking Bible never receives or uploads the contents or activity of the apps you protect.
- Your selection and protection state are used locally on the device, and shared locally between the main app and its Screen Time extensions through the App Group container. They are not transmitted to any Locking Bible backend.
You are always in control: you can turn Protection off in the app’s Settings, and you can revoke the app’s Screen Time authorization at any time in iOS Settings → Screen Time.
5. Subscriptions and Payments
Locking Bible offers auto-renewing subscriptions (weekly and annual) through Apple’s App Store, using Apple’s StoreKit framework.
- All purchases and billing are handled by Apple. Locking Bible never sees or processes your credit card or banking details.
- On your device, the app checks your current App Store entitlement status to know whether premium access is active. This check happens locally through Apple’s frameworks.
- Apple processes your purchase information independently, as described in Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not control Apple’s processing.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store account settings, or from Manage Subscription inside the app.
6. Notifications
Notifications are optional. If you allow them, the app schedules local notifications on your device — for example, “Protection is back on” when an unlock window ends. There is no push-notification server: notifications are created and delivered entirely on-device by iOS. You can disable them at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications.
7. Support Communications
If you contact us at support@lockingbible.com, we receive the information you voluntarily provide — your email address, your name if you include it, and the contents of your message.
We use it only to answer your request, provide support, and keep necessary support records. This is information you send us directly; it is not data collected by the app.
8. Data Sharing
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information with third parties for advertising.
The Locking Bible iOS app does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or tracking SDKs. It relies on Apple system services and frameworks for purchases (App Store / StoreKit), Screen Time features (Family Controls), and local notifications. Apple processes information under its own privacy policy, independently of us.
The provider that hosts this website may automatically process basic technical request data (such as IP address and browser user agent) in short-lived server logs, as virtually all web hosting does, to deliver pages securely. This website itself sets no analytics or advertising cookies.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
- We do not maintain any server-side user profile and do not retain app usage data on a Locking Bible backend.
- Most Locking Bible app data is stored locally and is removed when the app is deleted, subject to iOS system behavior. Screen Time permissions and system-managed settings can also be managed through iOS Settings.
- You can turn Protection off in the app, and revoke Screen Time authorization in iOS Settings at any time.
- Support emails are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain records, resolve disputes, or comply with legal obligations. You may email us to request deletion of your support-related personal data, where applicable.
10. Children’s Privacy
Locking Bible is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. The app has no account, no social features, no advertising, and no data collection targeted at anyone, including children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Your Privacy Rights
Because the app collects no personal data on our side, the personal data we may hold about you is limited to support communications you send us.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland
The data controller for support communications is Baptiste Guez (contact: support@lockingbible.com). We process support communications to respond to your request and operate the service — on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us, or, where relevant, because it is necessary to perform our contract with you. Retention is described in section 9.
Where applicable law grants them, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
California
Locking Bible does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is no targeted advertising in the app.
12. Security
Your app data stays on your device, protected by iOS’s built-in security (such as device encryption and app sandboxing). Because the app does not transmit your activity to a Locking Bible backend, there is no Locking Bible user database that could expose it. Payments are secured and processed by Apple.
13. International Users
The app works entirely on your device, wherever you are; we perform no cross-border transfer of your app data because we never receive it. If you email support, your message may be processed in the country where the developer is located.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
If we change this policy — for example, if a future version of the app adds a feature that handles data differently — we will update this page and its “Last updated” date. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
